AURORA, Colo. — Police in Aurora announced late Monday afternoon that they have made an arrest in connection to a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday morning.

Timothy Knutson, 37, was arrested after the body of a 26-year-old woman was found on the sidewalk in Aurora on Sunday shortly after 3 a.m.

Officers with the Aurora Police Department were dispatched to check on a person who was lying on the sidewalk on E. Iliff Avenue east of S. Pagosa Way.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a deceased 26-year-old woman on the south sidewalk.

An investigation revealed that a vehicle driving eastbound had left the roadway for an unknown reason and drove up onto the sidewalk, where it struck the woman and a street sign before returning to the roadway.

The driver fled from the scene. As of Sunday evening, there were no witnesses to the crime.

On Monday, police announced Knutson’s arrest.

He is being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene after an accident involving death, careless driving resulting in death, and driving under the influence.

The victim will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.
