BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- A jury convicted a former elementary school teacher accused of abuse against his 4th grade students in Lafayette.

Antonio Elias Rodriguez was convicted this week of two counts of child abuse with no injury stemming from allegations from students at his former job at Pioneer Elementary School in the Boulder Valley School District.

Students told police Rodriguez pushed their faces into desks and slapped them. Students also said Rodriguez once threw away their lunches and would not allow them to use the restroom during class.

The school put Rodriguez on leave after the allegations arose in April of 2017, and he resigned the following month.

Rodriguez is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
