CASTLE ROCK, Colo. – A former Castle Rock teacher accused of inappropriately touching a student while she was in his class was arrested Wednesday, the police department there said in a news release.

John Lucas Adkins, 27, a resident of Lone Tree, was taken into custody Wednesday morning by the Lone Tree Police Department and has been charged with one count of sexual assault of a child by one in a position of trust, a class 3 felony.

In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, Aspen View Academy principal Bob Barber said Adkins had been a seventh-grade math teacher at the school from August 2018 to Feb. 1, 2019 but was placed on administrative leave and fired two days later “following concerns brought to my attention the last week of January.”

Adkins is being held without bond at the Douglas County Jail pending his next court appearance, which is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
