The Denver Post reports 67-year-old Gilbert Trujillo refused to attend Wednesday's sentencing involving the assaults at Commerce City's Dupont Elementary School, where he was teaching third-, fourth- and fifth-graders.
Trujillo had been scheduled for sentencing Tuesday but refused to attend. He then banged his head against a wall and cut himself, inflicting injuries severe enough to require medical attention.
Prosecutors say he arranged to be alone with the victims in his classroom at recess or after school, often with blinds closed and the door locked. Trujillo was initially accused of sexually assaulting six girls, but his convictions are for two of the known victims.
