JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to a woman’s death after firefighters found a body while responding to a fire.
Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, members of Colorado State Patrol were in the area of W. Colfax Avenue and Nile Street in an unincorporated part of Jefferson County when they noticed a small outdoor fire. They reported the fire and the Pleasant View Fire Department and Fairmount Fire Department responded to the scene, which was on the corner of Nile Street and W. 7th Avenue.
As the firefighters put out the fire, they discovered the deceased body of a female. CSP was called to the scene to investigate.
Authorities said her death does not appear to have been accidental, so it has been classified as a homicide.
An autopsy for the woman is scheduled for Monday morning, said sheriff's office spokesperson Jenny Fulton, and they hope to ID the woman by her fingerprints and DNA.
Police canvassed the area Monday morning and talked with businesses in the area, but because it is an industrial area, they are not sure they'll have much luck, Fulton said. Some of those business could have video surveillance.
