ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Two brothers were arrested after police say they found child pornography and children’s underwear inside the pairs' Englewood home, which was described by investigators as "filthy" with an “unbearable odor.”

The two brothers, 61-year-old Timothy Alberts and 65-year-old Daniel Alberts, are facing child sexual exploitation and elder abuse charges.

The brothers’ 91-year-old father was found surrounded by filth covered in a blanket inside the home, according to a police report. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The two men were arrested Saturday morning following a search of the residence, located at 3951 South Washington Street.

A separate assault case brought officers to the home.

According to a statement from the Englewood Police Department, officers responded to the Washington Street house on a report of a female screaming around 7 a.m.

After arriving on the scene, officers found a 39-year-old woman who began to tell them she was physically assaulted by three men living in a shed on the brothers’ property.

It’s unclear, however, how or if the three unnamed suspects are connected to the Alberts brothers. Police say the alleged victim does not live on the property.

Seeking additional information, officers knocked on the brothers’ door and were invited inside by the elderly father.

Upon entering the house, officers immediately noted a “large amount of junk” and an “unbearable odor,” a police statement reads.

Police say the home was extremely filthy and included mice, rats, maggots, and other insects.

During a search of the home, police say they found child pornography stored on CD’s, Blu-ray disks, VHS tapes and on at least two computers.

Police allegedly also found children’s underwear in the suspects’ bedrooms, noting Daniel’s room had a pair of boy’s underwear displayed in his room. No children live in the home, police noted.

When questioned about the evidence found inside the house, the brothers admitted to being pedophiles, according to police documents.

Timothy told police “he likes children from the age one to eight,” while his brother “likes children from the age eight to 13,” the police statement read.

The two men were booked into the Arapahoe County Jail. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information will be released at this time.

Criminal records reviewed by Denver7 show both suspects have previously been arrested and charged on child sex assault allegations. The charges date back to the 70s and 80s.

Despite the brothers’ criminal history, the two are not required to register as sex offenders and therefore do not appear on any registry, according to officials from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

The brothers’ convictions were before offenders were required to register, CBI said.
