LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Police in Lafayette say a woman who was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend has been found nearly a day after they alerted the public of her disappearance.

Alexis Carol, 67, was reportedly kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, 75-year-old John Howard Baerhtlein, from the Peaks Senior Assisted Living Center in Lafayette at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Both were last known to be in the area of southbound I-25 and 120th Avenue about 4 p.m.

Police said they were believed to be traveling in a white, Ford 4-door pick-up truck with Oregon license plates, possibly headed to Nevada.

Investigators were worried for the woman's well-being because she suffers from dementia and Baerhtlein was known to carry firearms.

Carol was found at a Best Western in Elko, Nev. She was in protective custody and safe, according to a Lafayette Police Department spokesperson.

Her ex-boyfriend was taken into custody and was being held on a second-degree kidnapping charge.
