Elbert County deputy injured in hit-and-run; Suspect remains at-large

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. – The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help to find suspect who hit and injured an officer following a crash late Wednesday morning.

The deputy was parked on the side of the road with his emergency lights activated when he was hit while moving debris from the roadway.

The hit-and-run crash happened at around 11:15 a.m. on County Road 33 northwest of Kiowa, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The driver did not stop after striking the deputy and continued northbound on County Road 33.

The suspect vehicle is a white, 90s Chevy regular cab truck with chrome bumpers and ruse on the right side of the hood and the right front fender. The vehicle has a blue tint on the top of the windshield and damage to the right front of the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a thin, white male possibly in his 30s, wearing a green windbreakers, black baseball cap and sunglasses.

The deputy was expected to recover.
