DENVER -- Owning a home was a lifelong dream for Maria Guadalupe Garnica and after years of work she was finally able to move into her first home three months ago. But now, instead of fixing up the home, she is in recovery after a brutal attack.

The bruises on her face and six stitches on her head have barely started to heal after a man assaulted her during her Monday night shift at the 7-Eleven by the intersection of E. 17th Avenue and Gilpin Street in Denver.

Denver police said a man stole items from the store and attacked Garnica when she tried telling him to pay before leaving.

Garnica said the man beat her in the head and face and threatened to kill her, all while other customers were in the store and did nothing to stop the attack.

She said she remembers feeling like her head was going to explode while the man hit her. Now, she's resting at home and trying to recover from the assault.

Denver police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 720-913-2000.
