DENVER -- Investigators are still searching for the person who shot three people near 14th and Broadway, killing one man.

Denver police said the two surviving victims were in the area when shots were fired and they were struck by the gunfire. They're still working to determine if the man who died was targeted by the shooter.

According to police, the suspect had not been located or identified as of Friday morning.

"Now we have violence and it’s time for us to break down barriers, eliminate silos and get back to work to tackling this issue head on because we can’t continue to live in neighborhoods where violence, safety concerns, crime and other matters are front and center," said Travis Leiker, the President of Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods.

The shooting happened near a growing homeless encampment located across from the State Capitol.

A spokesperson for the mayor's office released the following statement:

We don’t have much to share today because of the ongoing homicide investigation. What happens next in Lincoln Park is complicated – we are trying to balance the needs of people experiencing homelessness with the need to protect public health and safety. As of yesterday, the city has delegated additional authority to the Colorado State Patrol to enforce certain city laws on state property within Denver, including Lincoln Park. We’ll provide an update as soon as we’re able.

Anyone with information that can help police to identify and locate the suspect is encouraged to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
