ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — A Denver-area Uber driver has been convicted of unlawful sexual contact after assaulting a female passenger in his car.

An Arapahoe County jury found Bashir Alsayed Hassan, 64, guilty of the class 1 misdemeanor on May 2 after the jury deliberated for about an hour.

On Nov. 16, 2017, Hassan picked up a 29-year-old woman who called for an Uber ride home, according to a release from the 18th Judicial District.

At one point during the ride, Hassan stopped the car and asked her to move to the back seat so he could pick up other passengers. It was during this time, the woman testified, that Hassan fondled her and put his fingers inside her vagina, the release read.

The victim repeatedly told him no and tried to kick him off, but he did not relent. Hassan took the victim to her home where she called police.

“Here, a predator used his position as a driver providing an important service, relied upon by many in our community, to try to satisfy his sexual urges,” said District Attorney George Brauchler in the release. “The jury agreed that we will not tolerate this outrageous and criminal behavior.”

Hassan will be back in court for sentencing on June 28. He is facing up to 24 months in jail.
