Counselor at juvenile detention facility accused of sexual assaulting inmate

BRIGHTON — A 29-year-old counselor at a juvenile detention facility in Brighton has been charged with sexual assault on a child.

Michelle Theresa Sarillo, a contract clinician through Community Reach Center, is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile inmate between Sept. 26, 2015 and Feb. 15, 2017 at Adams County Youth Services Center, a state-operated co-ed detention facility for 10- to 17-year-olds. The juvenile had just turned 16 years old when the assaults began, according to the district attorney’s office.

On Friday, 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young said Sarillo was charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse.

She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 24. Her bond is set at $20,000.
