DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Body camera footage showing Douglas County deputies shoot and kill an armed suspect was released Monday.
On August 31, Paul Askins, 61, of Colorado Springs, was shot and killed by Douglas County deputies after he pointed a gun at the officers during a traffic stop on Highway 85 just north of Delva Road.
Video released Monday shows a deputy asking Askins to step out of the vehicle. Askins emerged from the pickup truck with a pistol pointed at deputies. As he continued to advance out of the vehicle deputies shot Askins multiple times, fatally wounding him.
Three other people were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but none of them were injured. None of the deputies, whose names have not been released, were struck by the suspect's bullets.
According to the sheriff’s office, at the time of the shooting, Askins had two active warrants out of El Paso County.
