ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – A Sergeant with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office was indicted Thursday on six counts of sex-related crimes by a 17th Judicial District Grand Jury.

Michael Benson appeared in court Thursday morning where he was indicted on a sexual assault charge, a class 4 felony, and five counts of unlawful sexual conduct, a class 1 misdemeanor, according to Sue Lindsay, a public information officer for the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The indictment alleges that the sexual contact charges involved one victim and took place between February 11 and July 3 of 2018.

Benson, who was formally advised of the charges on Thursday, will return to court at the end of this month.
