THORNTON, Colo. -- Up to 21 employees at the Topgolf in Thornton could be infected with COVID-19, according to outbreak data from state health officials.

Three employees have tested positive and another 18 cases are considered probable. Every week the Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE) releases a list of outbreak data and the Thornton Topgolf was identified as one of the outbreak sites. You can view the weekly report here.

Denver7 reached out to the corporate offices for Topgolf to ask what steps the company is taking in light of the recent positive tests. COVID-19 safety information on the Topgolf website says employees must inform management if they test positive, and associate health screenings are conducted during shift check-ins.

According to CDPHE, it is up to local public health agencies or staff from their department to work with the business in order to mitigate the spread of the virus. A spokesperson for Tri-County confirmed they are conducting an open investigation and said they are unable to comment on any specifics related to that investigation.

A Topgolf Thornton spokeswoman sent Denver7 the following statement Thursday night:

We feel it is important to clarify information in recent news reports regarding suspected COVID-19 cases at Topgolf Thornton. To be clear, there are no associates currently working in the venue with a confirmed case of COVID-19. There were three confirmed cases in early August, and these Associates were immediately required to self-isolate from the venue as part of our safety protocol. Additionally, it is part of our standard safety protocol to require associates to self-isolate should they present flu-like symptoms or come in close contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The report of 18 suspected cases was a result of our enforcement of this protocol, however these are not confirmed cases of COVID-19. Our safety measures, which have been designed to maintain the safety and trust of our Guests and Associates, also include custom-made dividers in between each bay, guidelines for social distancing and enhanced disinfecting measures throughout the venue and outdoor hitting bays.
