DENVER — A new campaign in Colorado is gaining traction. The message: Everyone is essential during a pandemic.

One of the creators of the "I'm Essential" campaign, Enrique Elizondo, said it all stemmed from an idea.

"We’re starting a campaign that’s a unifying message, that means everybody is essential," Elizondo said.

Elizondo and his partner, Rusty Gonzales, want their campaign to help unify people in the middle of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"What makes housing cleaning folks or food service or delivery folks; they’re all essential as well because without those services we don’t have what we’d need or what we want", Gonzales said.

"I get frontliners are there, first responders are there, but quite honestly, there are the support system that exists for them. There’s the backbone, there’s the infrastructure that helps us all moving forward", Elizondo said.

One of the first people to donate to the campaign was Victor Garcia, the owner of a welding company.

"We’re all essential and everybody has their own part in this whole ecosystem here in Colorado," Garcia said.

Elizondo and Gonzales dropped off a box filled with shirts and stickers in order to continue spreading the word.

They said their goal is to raise $100,000 and donate all money to local nonprofit organizations.
