A bake sale is cooking up discord on the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado. The sale is designed to protest affirmative action by setting a price structure based on the color of your skin.
The college Republicans at CU Boulder said they were issued a permit last week to hold the so-called "affirmative action bake sale."But on Monday, they said the university threatened to shut it down.Supporters of the bake sale gathered at the federal courthouse in downtown Denver Tuesday afternoon to share some victory cookies. The group said it had reached an agreement with CU and the controversial bake sale will be held on the Boulder campus Wednesday."There's a reason why we're standing in front of the courthouse today," said Brad Jones of the College Republicans at CU. "We threatened them with a federal lawsuit defending our First Amendment rights.""The purpose was to show the true atrocities of affirmative action," said Jessica Corry of the Campus Accountability project. "Affirmative action pits one student against the other -- and that's wrong."Other universities across the country have held these affirmative action bake sales. They have often brought protests and had to be shut down.
