DENVER -- Video of a veteran doing laundry in his basement sink has led to an outpouring of support from the community. Brandon Murdock reached out to Contact7 after coronavirus fears kept him from making weekly trips to the laundromat.
Murdock's wife has a rare blood disorder and her immune system is compromised, so he worried leaving the house to do laundry could put his family at risk.
"With everything happening, I can't even have the slightest risk of putting her in jeopardy and my kids and myself," said Murdock.
After Denver7 aired his story, the response was immediate. Phone calls and emails started coming into the Contact7 inbox with offers to help.
Help arrived early Thursday morning, when a delivery truck dropped off a washer and dryer at the Murdock family home.
"It’s definitely going to help, it’s so much better, it’s awesome to be able to do everything for my wife and my children without having to leave and put their health in jeopardy, especially with my wife’s autoimmune disease," said Murdock.
The Appliance Factory and Mattress Kingdom donated the washer and dryer after management found out about Murdock's story.
"I did see the story and it’s just a great opportunity for us to help a veteran and give back," said Appliance Factory and Mattress Kingdom sales director Matt Coudayre.
The store remains open despite an order from the City of Denver regarding the closure of non-essential businesses. Coudayre said the delivery they made to Murdock's home shows why they should be considered essential.
"From our standpoint too this is such an important time for us to support the community," said Coudayre.
Murdock and his family are grateful for the new appliances.
"For me it was a shock and it was very much appreciated and I have nothing but gratitude and I thank all those who wanted to help," said Murdock.
