AURORA, Colo -- One person came to Denver7 for help after the hood of his car was stolen recently.

Will Sterrett works for Superior Roofing based out of Aurora. Last week, Sterrett went to work and was welcome with a surprise involving his work truck.

"I was actually pulling in and one of the guys said 'did you see your truck?'" Sterret said.

When Sterrett walked up to his truck he noticed the hood of it was gone, and his driver-side window broken.

"Everything else was accounted for," Sterrett said. "The only thing that was missing was my hood."
However, this isn't the first time this has happened to Superior Roofing.

"This is the second time, on the same truck," Sterrett said. "I've never heard of anyone stealing just the hood of a car."

According to the Aurora Police Department, there have been five reports of stolen car hoods since January.

A spokesperson for the department also said there has been one report in Denver, and another in Castle Rock.

APD officials said usually the suspects will get into an unlocked car or break a window in order to pop the hood latch, take the hood off and sell it.

"What police told me is that they could sell it in junk yards," Sterrett said. "Between $500 and $1,000 at most junk yards."

Superior Roofing has replaced the hood, and according to Sterrett, the total cost to replace it is $3,000.

APD officers said they are investigating the cases but have no current arrests.
