DENVER -- What 4-year-old children learn in preschool is priceless, but the cost of the education itself averages about $936 a month in Colorado. That cost can be discounted thanks to programs like the Denver Preschool Program , which provides tuition support to families in the city of Denver.

On Thurs., Feb. 28, volunteers from the Denver Preschool Program will be in the Contact7 Call Center answering calls about the program. They also will be able to refer people who live outside of Denver to similar programs in their area. The number to beginning at 4 p.m. is 303-777-7492. Volunteers will be available to take calls until 6:30 p.m.

Since 2007, the DPP has helped more than 50,000 children in Denver go to preschool by providing $106 million in tuition support. The program is open to all children getting ready to enter school in Denver regardless of their family’s income level – with the amount of support ranging from $40 a month to more than $900.

A preschool education is vitally important. Researchers at Duke University have been able to trace the skills taught to kids in preschool at age four to their learning habits in reading, writing and math all the way through eighth grade.
