DENVER -- Residents in the Platt Park neighborhood are voicing their concerns about Postal Service collection boxes being broken into, not fixed and then other people unknowingly putting mail inside.
Denver7 viewers reached out to Contact7 reporting boxes pried open at the intersections of Florida and S. Logan, Iowa and S. Pearl along with Jewell and S. Pearl streets in the Platt Park neighborhood.
Viewers also reported boxes being broken into in front of post office locations. Many residents in Platt Park posted on the NextDoor app about the issue and shared different times and locations where they noticed the vandalized boxes.
Contact7 reached out to the U.S. Postal Service to see what is being done about the problem.
Officials said they are planning to put signs on the broken boxes and will repair them as soon as possible. USPS said to lower your risk of being a victim in one of these cases, you can make sure the box is secure before putting mail inside and not using the collection boxes after the posted pick up time. Instead, waiting until the next day to put mail inside to leave it during the daytime for pickup.
Direct victims can report to the USPS Inspection Service at (877) 876-2455 ext. 2 if they think they had mail in the boxes impacted overnight. USPS also reminds the public stealing or tampering with mail is a federal crime.
