DENVER — A driver wants Wyatts Towing to step up and take responsibility for the damage she says the Denver business caused to her rental car while it was being towed.
In December of 2018, Lamyia Williams flew from Florida to visit her mom in Aurora. During her stay, she rented a car from Alamo Rent a Car. That same car was later towed from her mother's apartment complex parking lot.
Williams says she didn't give it much thought and paid the $259.08 to get her car back.
"I went back there, and the entire bumper was detached, and I was just flabbergasted," Williams said.
She filed a claim with the company.
"Every time I would call, I would get a representative to say, "oh, somebody will call you back, somebody will get in touch with you,'" Williams said. But that never happened.
Months went by without a response, and Alamo sent her a bill for the car damage, the total: $2,074.25.
"I don't have $2,000 just laying around," Williams said. "Now, it's in collections, so I have a collections agency coming after me for the balance."
After countless calls, she says she recorded a Wyatt's representative admitting they were responsible for the damage.
Williams played the recording for Denver7:
"Just give us a call back because the damage was not obviously there before we towed it. It looked like our driver had did it," the voice on the recording said.
Williams says the back and forth with the business for more than a year has been stressful.
"I just want justice," she said. "I don't want to be held responsible for this."
Denver7 called Wyatts Towing on two separate days and paid a visit. We were told the owner would get back to us, but no one did.
Williams, who now lives in Denver, is warning drivers to beware.
"If you see a Wyatts Towing sign, stay away, don't park," she said.
Dozens of customers have filed complaints against the Denver company on the Better Business Bureau. The company has an "F" rating. The pattern of complaints includes predatory practices, service issues, and damage to vehicles during towing.
