DENVER – “Do a good turn daily.”

It’s a Boy Scout saying that could just as easily be the motto of Denver7 viewers who stepped up to help a Denver-area troop who was left without their campign equipment following a terrifying crash in Wyoming last week.

Boy Scout Troop 375 was camping in South Dakota and on their way back on June 22 when a tow truck crossed the middle lane and hit their truck.

While no was seriously injured, everything in the trailer was lost – leaving the troop without camping gear for the rest of the summer.

Parents of the troop reached out to Contact7 for a little help, but what came next was way more than expected.

“That’s – wow. That’s more than I thought we’d ever start off with,” said Scoutmaster Mike Gunnoe.

Denver7 viewers donated $1,000 and Scheel’s matched that amount to get $2,000 to replace the camping gear that was lost.

“I have to admit, the support has been outstanding. Not just from you guys, but the community as a whole. We’ve had to offers for trailers,” Gunnoe said.
Summer appears to be on track, after all.

“I think we’re going to be back on track and the Scouts will be back where they’re supposed to be,” Gunnoe said. “It’s heartwarming. It really, really is heartwarming to know that people really do care.”
