FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. -- After learning one of her straight A students was homeless, the principal for Pinnacle Charter Middle School reached out to the community for help and the response was overwhelming.

“It’s really heartbreaking to see how this need was created, but to see everybody rallying around her is a great thing,” Dr. Kimberly Stalcup, the principal at Pinnacle Charter Middle School told Denver7.

Stalcup asked the student what she wanted for Christmas.

“She hesitated quite a bit but we got her to tell us she really wanted school uniform clothes that fit her and she wanted a warm coat for her mom and some dog food for her dog,” Stalcup said.

Donations have been pouring in to turn the holidays around for this eighth grader. Someone even gifted her a Kindle because she loves to read.

The girl’s mother, Tammi Amack, says she lost her job as a senior caregiver and since April they have been living out of their car.

She told Denver7 she looked everywhere for housing but nothing was available.

“I was on the list in Denver and I started at 129 or 127 but now I am at 9,” Amack said. “I just found out yesterday I don’t know what it is, it’s got to be God.”

Amack said finding a job while homeless was difficult because she never has clean clothes. She is now working in the Denver Post warehouse and says her boss even helped her when her van broke down.

She says the generosity the community has shown them is nothing short of a Christmas miracle.

“Thank you to everyone that’s put us in your heart. I know my daughter is a special little girl but you have all really made her smile,” Amack said.

Amack is praying they will find housing by Christmas.

Until then, Stalcup started a GoFundMe account to help them find a place to stay.
