After fall, Thornton man found out medical panic button didn't work; company failed to notify him

THORNTON, Colo. — A 68-year-old Thornton man said he was forced to crawl across the floor after a fall only to discover his security monitoring panic button wasn’t working.

Dennis King has limited mobility and other health issues. He contacted Denver7 after no one responded from the security company that he pays $57.99 a month.

North Star Alarm services said the communication link between King’s home and the company had been out-of-service for 14 months — since January 2017.  

King says he was never notified by the company that it was out of the service despite making his payments. 

Denver7 reached out to the company's customer care supervisor, and two hours later King got the phone call he's been waiting for. 

“He told me that he was calling to try and get this taken care of,” said King.

North Star Alarm said it will be refunding King for 16 months of service and releasing him from the contract. 

The company sent the following statement:

“Due to the communication failure, NorthStar was not automatically notified of the failure. This is not a common problem with security systems, and we regret this situation arose with Mr. King.”
