AURORA, Colo. -- A Colorado Port of Entry officer is issuing her own personal "Be On the Look Out" for a red Dodge Durango, which was stolen while she was in Aurora receiving treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Mary King purchased the 2005 Durango three years ago so she could take her five grandchildren on trips to the park, to school, or shopping.
"It took a while to get the vehicle I wanted and that would suit my needs," she said. "It had enough seating for the grandkids and other features I liked, such as all-wheel drive."
Mary's daughter, Brittany King, drove her up from Lamar to Aurora for a stem cell transplant.
She parked the SUV in the garage at the Forum Fitzsimons Apartments on East Colfax, across from UCHealth.
On Thursday, she walked into the garage intending to go grocery shopping and the SUV wasn't where she had parked it.
"I was trying to push the button (on the key fob) to see if it would beep," she said, "but there was nothing."
"I went in to tell mom. ... I think she thought I was messing with her," Brittany said.
Mary said she'd left her wallet inside the Durango.
"It had my driver's license, and my patrol ID and my concealed carry ID, just things like that," she said.
The Port of Entry officer is pleading with whoever took her Durango to bring it back.
"With the cancer, finances are an issue," she said, "and I don't know that I can afford another vehicle."
"She already has a lot on her plate as far as treatments, her job and everything," Brittany said. "This is a whole new challenge. It has added more stress, and more worry to her."
Brittany told Denver7 that Brent's Place Foundation, in partnership with UCHealth, is providing a place for Mary to stay during her treatment. It has also provided an Uber card, as a short term solution, to get her to her appointments.
The Kings are asking everyone to keep an eye out for their red 2005 Dodge Durango.
"If you see it, contact Aurora Police," Brittany said.
