AURORA, Colo. — Denver7 viewers raised over $4,000 for a little boy who fractured his skull in a hit-and-run crash in his own backyard.
“We thank everyone who helped – we are more than grateful, a lot of stress is relieved,” mother Selena Mestas said. “We were trying to look for help and a lot of people were out of funding or were only helping for COVID related issues. This is really a blessing.”
Esteban is now out of the hospital. His mother says he is doing well and wants to go back to playing like a normal kid. She is not sure if he will be able to start kindergarten in the fall.
“The hospital told us he won’t be cleared for playing and running around for three months,” Mestas said.
Aurora police are still looking for the driver of the silver sedan that caused the crash that injured Esteban on July 16.
The silver sedan hit a Ford Explorer on East Quincy Avenue. The collision caused the Ford Explorer off the road, through a fence and into the backyard where Esteban was playing. The car hit him and carried him into the neighbor's yard.
“If it was me I would turn myself in, I couldn’t live with myself knowing I hurt an innocent child; they are the purest thing in the world,” Mestas said.
