DENVER--A mom and her teenage daughter are climbing their way out of homelessness and they couldn’t have done it without your generosity to Denver7 Gives.

When we met Tammi Amack and Miranda they were living in their car.

"It was so hot. The bugs are so bad. Sleeping outside you always get stopped by the cops. They always think you are doing something bad, and it’s just me and my kid," Amack said.

It took a year and a half of persistence, but the family finally moved into affordable housing in March.

"I'm so excited. We don’t have much, but we are starting out," Amack said.

Miranda has her own room and has decorated the walls with inspirational quotes.

"I love decorating. Interior design is something I love to do. I wanted a space I could feel safe," Miranda said.

Our viewers donated $2,600 to the family. The money was used to pay for car repairs, three-months rent, Boost Mobile gift cards and other bills.

"You guys are wonderful," Amack said. "Thank you to whoever donated. I can’t believe that, but I promise you we are going to get on our feet."

The family had hardly any furniture and was sleeping on the floor. Arc Thrift Stores donated a bed for Miranda.

1-800-Got-Junk/ You Move Me delivered the bed to their apartment.

Champa Auto in Denver generously donated labor costs and fixed Tammi's car.

"Coolant leak, oil leak, tires bad, overheated, AC was not working," Mohamed Daghma, owner of Champa Auto Repair said. "We should step up to help each other. It’s not all about money -- money is nothing."

Miranda starts high school this year. She still has straight A’s, got several awards and dreams of becoming a teacher.

She has some advice for young people going through homelessness.

"None of its easy. There is going to be days you don’t have food or clean clothes. You're going to cry. Its going to be hard, but you are going to get through it," Miranda said.

Denver7 features the stories of people who need help and now you can help them with a cash donation through Denver7 Gives. One hundred percent of contributions to the fund will be used to help people in our local community.
