LONGMONT, Colo. — If you don't believe in second chances, then you haven't met Angel.

"We knew she was going to be the most precious thing," said Siri Lindley of Believe Ranch and Rescue in Longmont.

At just one week old, she and her mama were saved off a kill lot, today her love and trust are stronger than ever.

"It all comes down to love and the first thing that my wife and I do is we just love on them and we get them to trust in humans again," Lindley said.

Angel is just one of the stories behind Believe Ranch and Rescue, a horse sanctuary started of Siri and her wife, Rebekah Keat, both world class triathletes, saw a video that would change the course of their lives.

"It was a video of the way they slaughter horses in Mexico and Canada," Keat said. "Americans actually ship 80-thousand a year to slaughter and immediately we decided that this was our mission."

In the two years since, the couple has saved more than 101 horses from slaughter. They give them vet care, rebuild their trust and find them forever homes.

"She was a barrel racer and they dumped her because she had bursitis in her hip," Keat said of one of their first rescues. "The trainer says she’s the best horse that they’ve ever trained and if she ever goes missing it’s because she stole her," she joked.

"They have as a team, got a powerful way of manifesting goodness in the world and everyone that comes in their path is really touched by them in a positive way," said Karen Burks who nominated the couple.

Incredibly these once tossed aside animals harbor no fears and no resentments.

"In that respect they’re teachers, they’re really powerful teachers, of trust, forgiveness, confidence, energy," Lindley said.

Reminding us, if they can do it, maybe we can too.
