LAKEWOOD, Colo. — There is a place in Colorado that tries to provide caring, compassion and community to thousands of people. It is only fitting that an outstanding volunteer gives her time there.
"When Saint Anthony was being built, I said, 'That's where I am going,'" said volunteer Carol Rodenbaugh.
That was seven years ago.
Since then, Rodenbaugh has given more than 3,000 volunteer hours at Saint Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.
"I feel warm and fuzzy when I am able to do something good for somebody," Rodenbaugh said.
"She mans the desk. She is very passionate about what she does and she is incredibly committed," said Saint Anthony Hospital CEO Peter Powers.
Rodenbaugh gives her time at the hospital's help desk, but also has another duty.
"She does eucharistic ministry," Powers said proudly.
"We give communion to Catholic patients who wish to receive it," Rodenbaugh said.
And to the staff at Saint A's, who also need a little TLC from time to time, Carol Rodenbaugh embodies the mission at Saint Anthony's, of serving not just the body but the mind and spirit as well.
"I get more than I give, for sure," Rodenbaugh said.
