DENVER -- Business leaders and elected officials celebrated Small Business Saturday by visiting food-focused businesses in the RiNo neighborhood of Denver.

The day after black Friday marks Small Business Saturday.

"It's a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country," said a spokesperson for the Denver Chamber of Commerce.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Congresswoman Diana DeGette and Denver Metro Chamber President and CEO Kelly Brough shopped together inside The Preservery, an eatery and bakery.

"These people are typically your neighbors," said Mayor Hancock. "They are certainly our local taxpayers. They are our biggest employers quite frankly. We need to make sure they thrive and are successful too, this holiday season."

The U.S. Small Business Administration says the millions of small businesses in America make up more than 50 percent of all U.S. sales.
