DENVER -- The City of Denver has, surprisingly, fallen on the list of the most expensive places to rent an apartment in the U.S., according to data gathered by rental site Zumper.

The San Francisco-based rental site ranks the Mile High City at 24, beating much smaller cities such as Madison, Wis. Data shows Denver fell three places when compared to last year.

The median price for a one-bedroom apartment in Denver is now $1,220 – a 3.2 percent drop when compared to last month and a 7.6 percent decrease when compared to rental prices in 2015.

San Francisco, Calif., remains the most expensive place in the U.S. to rent, with a monthly rental price tag of $3,300 for a one-bedroom apartment.
