Caramel corn. Salted Oreo ice cream. Bacon bits sprinkled into cinnamon rolls. All of these treats are proof that sweet and salty just go together. If this is a tasty combination you love, you’ve got to know about a two-ingredient Halloween-time treat that will satiate both your sweet tooth and savory cravings at the same time.

The winning combination? Peanuts tossed with candy corn.

According to Better Homes & Gardens, this seasonal mix is something that Midwesterners call “fall mix” — and that may have the aliases “autumn mix” or “harvest mix.” You could keep it simple with a good ratio of peanuts and candy corn, or you could sprinkle in some chocolate chips or M&Ms to make a Halloween-time trail mix.

Or you could add candy corn into a mix with popcorn, pretzels and peanuts for a more-salty-than-sweet snacking combo.

Candy corn, no doubt, is a contentious candy. According to a poll of 300,000 people, it was ranked the worst treat to pass out on Halloween.

When it comes to snacking on it, a survey found that 65% of people think you should eat the whole piece of candy corn at once; 29% believe you should start with the narrow, white end; and other respondents think you should start with the wider, yellow end.

Of course, if you are on Team Candy Corn, and rejoice when the Halloween treat hits store aisles, you can also use the candy to make white chocolate blondies, milkshakes or peanut butter pretzel bark.

The candy also comes in a variety of flavors aside from the traditional candy corn (which, by the way, is supposed to taste like a mix of buttery caramel, vanilla and marshmallow).

You can now buy blackberry cobbler candy corn. Brach’s also makes a “harvest corn,” which has a chocolatey taste, along with specialty flavors, including Turkey Dinner Candy Corn. The Thanksgiving-inspired candy tastes like turkey, green beans, stuffing, ginger glazed carrots, cranberry sauce and sweet potato pie.

Where do you fall in the candy corn debate? Do you love or loathe the Halloween treat?
