The type of home a buyer can expect to get for that price varies quite a bit across the metro area. In some areas, you can find a single-family detached home while in others, like Denver, you're more likely to find a condo or townhouse.
Detached homes tend to be more expensive - the median is $435,000 - while condos are priced lower, with a median of $296,000. There were about three times as many detached homes on the market in February compared to condos.

This might be one of the smallest homes for sale at the $400,000 price point. Located right across from Commons Park on the South Platte, this is prime real estate, so you don't get quite as much for your money. It's a one-bedroom condo that's just over 700 square feet.
Listed for just under $400,000, this three-bedroom home is located near the end of a quiet, dead-end street in Commerce City. Though it looks small from the outside, the home has nearly 2,700 square feet of space inside.
