DENVER -- The State of Colorado is reporting its first flu hospitalizations of the 2015-16 flu season.

So far, seven people have been hospitalized in Colorado for flu, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health of Environment.

The people who have been hospitalized were in Adams, Boulder, Denver and Douglas counties. El Paso County is reporting a flu hospitalization separately from the state.

While flu season typically peaks in January or February in Colorado, experts suggest that people get a flu shot in October.

Last year, 1,639 people were hospitalized for the flu in Colorado. The state only tracks flu hospitalizations, not people who get treatment from their doctor.

There are three places to get free flu shots in the Denver metro area this weekend. See the list of free and cheap flu shots here.

The Centers for Disease Control released its weekly flu count last Saturday. In the report, only New Hampshire was reporting regional flu activity.
