CO doctors worry about slow start of flu season

Flu season is off to a slow start in Colorado this year, and doctors are worried that not enough people are getting vaccinated.

"This year people didn't get their shots as much and we at The Little Clinic have a huge concern," said Ladean Cross, Clinical Director with The Little Clinic.

Cross said that people aren't necessarily thinking about the flu just yet, and thinks part of that has to do with warmer weather. For a comparison, she said December of 2014 was their busiest month for the flu.

Centers for Disease Control information from early January shows sporadic cases of the flu in Colorado.

The Little Clinic still has a lot of flu shots left, and Cross said it's not too late to get vaccinated. Last season's flu shot was not as effective and she is concerned that it's keeping some people from getting the shot this year.

"There was a miss and a lot of people got sick that had their flu shot, so they're thinking 'I won't get it this year.' I think that could be a big mistake," Cross said.

Researches expect the flu to peak in February.
