Colorado doctor shares thoughts on how to prevent 'mommy burnout'

Denver, Colo - Many moms feel tired. Many feel like they can't add anything else on their plate. Some even say they lose their temper more and have no patience with their kids.

 

These are some of the most common concerns that many Moms share with Dr. Sheryl Ziegler, a Denver psychologist and a family counselor. So much, that she decided to write a book titled, "Mommy Burnout" to share some of her own personal experiences and tools she's developed over the years to avoid the so called "Mommy Burnout." As a mother of three herself, she knows about the importance of self care.

 

"Think about how we use an oxygen mask. We put the mask on ourselves first, then the child," said Dr. Ziegler.

Lack of self-care and making time for themselves is one of the top reasons Dr. Ziegler feels Moms can feel so overwhelmed and wiped out. Next, is not staying socially connected with friends. Dr. Zielger says that one-on-one time is needed for Moms to connect with other people. She says in-person interaction is a must and not just on social media. 

The third mistake Dr. Ziegler often sees is Moms who put their relationships and marriage on the back burner. She says you can't have the mindset that one day you will get back to your spouse. Instead, Dr. Ziegler says your spouse has to be a priority.
