DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. -- The Douglas County School Board election is one of the most closely watched board elections in the nation.

Big money is flooding in from around the country to try to influence the vote.

The election has two slates with four candidates on each side: Elevate Douglas County (reform group) and Douglas County Parents (pro-public schools).

So far, the American Federation of Teachers, a teacher’s union, has already spent $300,000 toward the pro-public school's group.

$50,000 dollars was given to the reform group by The Colorado Republican Committee, as of the last reporting date.

A writer with a think tank in Denver said this might turn into an epic school board battle. Ross Izard, with ACE Scholarship and the Independence Institute, said in a statement to Denver7 that the question is whether the new majority will seek to expand parental choice.

Anthony Graziano, with the pro-public school's group, said public dollars need to stay in public schools.

"We are against any forms of public dollars going to support private schools," Graziano said. "Unfortunately, here in Douglas County, this is what put us here on the map, where we've become a national test tube for all kids."

While Elevate Douglas County didn't say if they are for or against vouchers, they just want to see the case go through the system.

"Our position is we'd like to see it through. Let’s find out whichever way it goes, is it constitutional or is it not?" said candidate Randy Mills.
