EVERGREEN, Colo. — As students and parents try to navigate online classrooms, some are turning to learning centers to fill in the gaps.
"The older ones in particular were very disappointed to not be in school with their teachers and their peers," said Ryan Dobbs, a parent of three students.
He said his kids miss that face-to-face interaction with their teachers and he's found himself sitting down with their youngest child to assist with virtual learning.
"Well I think parents aren’t always teachers and there may be problems especially as we get into the upper grade levels and high school where they can’t help them," said Chad Ducklow, who owns a learning center called Success4Life.
Chad Ducklow is a former teacher and principal who is trying to address some of the challenges that come with remote learning, like when parents find themselves struggling to teach Common Core math.
"I had a parent when I was teaching fourth grade talk to me about I’m an engineer and I can’t even do this math, I don’t understand it because it’s not how I learned so our teachers are up to date with Common Core and understanding how to instruct on that," Ducklow said.
License teachers will be available at the center to help students when those questions come up. Ducklow said some kids need face-to-face instruction and he doesn't want anyone to fall behind.
"So I think there are going to be struggles, we also provide, we also have two special education teachers and I think that’s my biggest concern for the future is trying to meet those special education needs virtually," Ducklow said.
