LITTLETON, Colo. — As part of an entrepreneurship class at their middle School, a group of 8th grade students have created a business to plan to create and sell a product with all the proceeds going to charity.
“It’s definitely different from any other class I’ve had in middle school,” student Abigail Russum said.
Twenty-four eighth graders are taking the class as an introduction to business. They are creating wooden blocks with scrabble-type letters on them that are used as candle holders.
“You can put a candle in it or an LED candle and on the blocks you can make it spell anything you wish,” Sophia Eder added.
‘Wish’ is the key word there. Once the class sells the blocks, ranging in price from $4-$20 for multiples, all the proceeds will be given to Make-A-Wish Colorado.
“It’s a great experience. You really get to see how happy it makes kids,” Eder said.
“One hundred percent a win-win. We get a lot from it and they get money from it,” student Drue Darfler said with a laugh.
This will be the school’s fifth year doing this program. In the four previous years combined, the school has raised over $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
