DENVER -- Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy. Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in the Denver metro area this weekend.    

1. The 48th Annual Oktoberfest Denver

What: While Oktoberfest is mainly about beer, Denver’s festivities is a family-friend event that showcases a dachshund derby, costume contests, food tastings, polka dancing and, of course, live music.

When: Friday, September 22; Saturday, September 23 and Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Between 20th and 22nd Streets on Larimer Street in the Ballpark neighborhood

Admission: Free, unless you buy a VIP package which can range from $25 to $175.

2. Bee Boulder Festival

What: Come join the City of Boulder as it celebrates bees and their important contributions to our way of life with friendly entertainment for both kids and adults, including workshops on how to support and protect bees, beeswax candle-making workshops and more.

When: Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

3. Centennial Chalk Art Festival

What: Centennial will welcome residents and tourists alike for a colorful weekend as more than 40 talented artists bring masterpieces to life right at your feet! Enjoy live music along with a variety of fine art vendors. Food from metro area food trucks and beverages will be available for purchase.

When: Saturday, September 23, 2017 through Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

4. Dragondeer and Strange Americans at Levitt Pavilion

What: Denver-based psych-blues band Drangondeer will co-headline the Levitt Pavilion’s last free concert of the season with Strange Americans.

5. Mountain Harvest Festival

What: The western slope Town of Paonia celebrates fall accordingly with live music, farmers’ markets, beer, wine tasting, a chili cook-off, arts and crafts as well as farm tours.

6. Loaf ‘N Jug Chile and Frijoles Festival in Pueblo

What: Pueblo gets a bad rap, but that all goes away during the Chile and Frijoles Festival. Experience the taste of green chile in its many forms – smoking on a stick, chopped into a tortilla, or served as green salsa. Partake in cooking competitions, dancing, live music, arts and crafts and a farmers’ markets.

When: Friday, September 22, 2017 through Sunday, September 24, 2017; Friday, 3 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

7. The 13th Floor Haunted House, The Asylum return for another spooky season

What: 13th Floor is Denver’s largest haunted housed – now 10,000 square-feet larger than last year! Explore a seemingly abandoned manor that is home to evil permanent residents who were unwittingly awakened by a local psychic; and visit the eerie town of Coalfell where strange reports describe terrorizing shape shifting creatures, which most often take the form of evil clowns. A night of excitement and thrills await; the spine-tingling scares start the moment you step out of your car.

But the scares don’t end there.

A few miles east of downtown lies the secret resting ground for lost souls. Enter The Asylum to discover a body of a victim lost to a ghastly disease. What begins as a tour quickly turns into a trap and a race against the clock for survival. Then, battle through bloodthirsty zombies in hopes of finding sanctuary from demonic creatures. Before leaving, take a visit to Ridgegate Hospital, where the dangerous and deranged patients are the least of your worries and fears. The Asylum is a horrifying head trip for all who dare to enter.
