DENVER -- Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy. Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in the Denver metro area this weekend.      

1. Arapahoe County Fair

What: Get ready for all-day fun full of carnival rides, concerts, rodeos, livestock shows, a petting farm, mutton bustin’, rodeo, and much more at the Arapahoe County Fair!

Where: Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 East Quincy Avenue, Aurora, Colo.

When: Friday, July 28, 2017 through Sunday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Admission: Kids under 3 feet fall get in free, Adults $15 at the gate. Parking is $5 per vehicle. This is a cash-only event.

2. Boulder County Fair

What: The oldest fair in the state of Colorado is celebrating 148 years and the celebrations start this Friday and go through August 6. A parade through downtown Longmont from Roosevelt Park and Eighth Avenue beings at 10 a.m. this Saturday. At the fair, you’ll find carnival rides, livestock barns, a petting zoo, truck and tractor pulls, Western and Mexican rodeo, ballet on horseback and much more.

Where: Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont, Colo.

When: Saturday, July 29, 2017until Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Admission: Free, but special events range from $5 to $15 for adults.

3. The 2017 Festival of Felines

What: Love cats? Wish you could see benefit cat shelters in metro area? Then you need to go to the 2017 Festival of Felines. There, you can view painted cat figurines, buy cat-themed craft items and explore the Meow Mart for all your feline needs. New this year? Multiple craft stations for children to paint flower pots for cat grass. Refreshments will be served.

When: Saturday, July 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Where: Cat Care Society, 5787 West 6th Avenue, Lakewood, Colo.

Admission: Free, but a $10 donation is suggested

4. 8th annual LGBTQ Wedding Expo

What: The 8th Annual “Same Love, Same Rights” LGBT Wedding Expo invites you and your loved one to check out dozens of LGBT-friendly wedding and travel professionals at the only LGBT wedding expo in the region. You can also check out LGBT ceremony planning tips, food, fun, fabulous raffles and more.

When: Sunday, July 30 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Lionsgate Event Center, 1055 South 112th Street, Lafayette, Colo.

5. Hammond Candies Factory Tour

What: Did you know that you can take a free tour of Colorado’s very own Hammond’s Candy Factory?  Tours run every half-hour Monday through Saturday.  Watch candy makers as they hand-pull and twist oversize candy canes, ribbon candy, lollipops and chocolate.  It’s educational fun for candy lovers of all ages.  And bonus, every tour guest gets a free candy sample.

6. Coors Brewery Tours

What: Coors has been making beer in Golden, Colo., since the 1870s. The brewery experience includes a 30-minute self-paced tour highlighting the malting, brewing and packaging processes.

When: Weekly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Weekly on Sunday from noon – 4 p.m.

7. Colorado Renaissance Festival

What: Prepare to dress up in period-accurate fashion, bring your appetite for turkey legs and get ready to return to the past, because the 41st annual Colorado Renaissance Festival is coming back to Larkspur this weekend.

When: Saturday, June 10 – Sunday, July 30

Where: 650 West Parry Park Avenue in Larkspur, CO.

Admission: Adults $24, Children between 5 and 12-years-old $12, Children under 5 get in free.
