Inauguration Ceremony at the Colorado State Capitol

The official swearing in ceremony for Governor-Elect Jared Polis, Attorney General-Elect Phil Wiser, Treasurer-Elect Dave Young and Secretary of State-Elect Jen Griswold is taking place on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol. It starts at a 11 a.m.

The public viewing area will be on Lincoln St. between 14th and Colfax Avenues.

The 113th National Western Stock Show kick-off parade – Denver

When more than 40 Longhorn cattle start making their way through the streets of downtown Denver at the beginning of the year, you know it can only mean one thing – the National Western Stock Show is here!

Checkout the streets of downtown Denver as hooves, boots, chaps and cowboy hats take over the city to celebrate the annual western tradition. This year, Dana Crawford, a Denver urban developer and preservationist, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the kick-off parade.

Cherokee Ranch & Castle tour – Sedalia

Always wanted to go to a castle but haven’t had the chance to travel abroad to see one? No worries – Colorado has one and you can take a public (or private) tour!

Cherokee Castle’s unique architecture combines aspects of the Western United States and a 1450’s Scottish-style castle built in the 1920’s. The Castle is home to historic collections of fine art, furnishings and memorabilia from around the world.

Tropical Trails Tour at the Denver Botanic Gardens

The Great Fruitcake Toss in Manitou Springs

It’s no secret most of us are not fond of fruitcake and would rather toss it than be subjected to another bite during the holidays. The idea wasn’t lost on the people of Manitou Springs, who in 1995 started tossing them around in downtown.

So each year, people come together to test their fruitcake tossing distance, accuracy and speed, using mechanical devices to launch the holiday desserts. There’s also a fruitcake costume competition, libations and a fruitcake bake-off. And yes – there are prizes for winners of each competition.

Plains Conservation Center Wagon Tour in Aurora

Enjoy a wagon ride across the plains to watch for wildlife from prairie dogs to pronghorn antelope and birds of prey, while learning about the short grass prairie ecosystem. Take a guided tour of the sod homestead and see the sod homes, schoolhouse and blacksmith shop.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut at the Alamo Drafthouse – Denver

Blade Runner, a film set in a futuristic dystopia, tells the story of Rick Deckard, a cop who specializes in terminating Replicants – robotic human clones used as servants in colonies outside of Earth. Originally in retirement, he is forced to get back on the job after four replicants escape from an off-world colony to Earth.
