Some celebs love to post loads of details about their lives on social media, while others prefer to keep things a little more private. Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Constance Wu definitely falls into the latter category, going as far as indefinitely pausing her once-active Twitter and Instagram accounts.

“I feel like loneliness right now is pervasive because of social media,” Wu told the Los Angeles Times in 2019. “Some people aren’t connecting as much, or they don’t know how to do it in real life.”

In fact, the star of “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Crazy Rich Asians” is so good at maintaining a low profile that she managed to keep an entire pregnancy and the birth of her first child private until just this week. Wu and her boyfriend, musician Ryan Kattner, welcomed the baby girl over the summer.

Wu, 38, and Kattner, 42, who also goes by the stage name Honus Honus as the frontman for the rock band Man Man, have kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight as well. You won’t find a picture of the pair together on Kattner’s Instagram page, which is quite active, and his latest posts make no mention of the exciting news since it has been revealed.

As a Taiwanese-American, Wu has experienced some backlash in the past for dating men who aren’t Asian.

“They make this assumption that every single one of my boyfriends has been white based on the one boyfriend they saw on my social media, the one I was dating when I started my account,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “But if this anger is so large and triggered by something kind of small and not necessarily verifiable, then it’s about a deeper issue, and I or other Asian women might be the unfortunate target of it.

Kattner, meanwhile, is half-Filipino and spent his childhood moving from his birthplace in Texas to the Philippines, Germany, and several states in the U.S. before settling in California.

Despite being the target of these unfair attacks, Wu took an empathetic stance in talking about her critics.

“The way I try to think about it is if somebody needs to target me as part of their longer journey to figure out how they feel about themselves and their place in the world, I think that’s fine,” she said. “Of course, hateful things don’t feel good, but I understand. This person does things because they’re hurting, and they don’t know how to express it.”

“Fresh Off the Boat” wrapped up in February after six seasons on ABC. Wu’s next film, “I Was a Simple Man,” is set to premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival.

So far, no photos of the couple’s baby have been published, and her name has not been made public, but we wish the growing family health and happiness into the new year!
