Crew Gaines celebrated his first birthday a few days ago, and he celebrated the occasion by taking his first steps.

As proud daddy Chip Gaines posted on his Instagram account, newly 1-year-old Crew took his first steps at Magnolia Farms, the Gaines’ gorgeous property in Waco, Texas. Chip, who has four other children with his wife Joanna — including Drake (14 years old), Ella (13 years old), Duke (13 years old) and Emmie Kay (9 years old) — is clearly overjoyed in the photo as he encourages baby Crew to boldly walk toward him.

Proud mama Joanna Gaines writes on her blog that this last year has been the “fastest and best year of our lives.” They celebrated Crew’s first year on this earth with a sailing-themed birthday party and a delicious cake — which Crew happily dove into face-first.

The “Fixer Upper” star and mom of five has not let her newest addition slow her down. In fact, she just released a children’s book, which was inspired by the creativity of her own children. And she’s hard at work at her new television network, which will launch in 2020. In partnership with her husband Chip, this new network will cover topics like “design and renovation, cooking, gardening, wellness, community, entrepreneurialism or relationships,” as Joanna says on her recent Instagram post.

Where does this busy mama get the energy? Well, she actually credits Crew for the boost!

“[Welcoming Crew] woke me up a little bit,” Gaines says in an interview with People. “Life was doing its thing, and this baby — typically you feel tired, but this baby, he’s just like my second wind.”

She also says Crew helps her to be present and enjoy life in a deeper and more meaningful way.

“Crew reminds me of the freedom of a little child, unhindered by the burdens of the world: the way his eyes light up when he sees something new, his belly laugh when we make a funny noise, his desire to explore everything without fear,” she writes in her summer updateon her blog.

Aw. Congrats on your first steps and being a big 1-year-old, Crew!
