CB Cotton

CB Cotton joined Denver7 in December 2020 as a reporter and is thrilled to be in the beautiful state of Colorado. The start of her career was spent honing the craft of photography and journalism, and she is honored to be part of a team that was awarded with the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Overall Excellence award, two years in a row.

CB grew up along the coast in Eastern North Carolina. It was there that her love of fishing and seafood first began. She spent many hours on the water with her dad, a Vietnam Veteran and game warden, getting fresh catch for dinner. CB grew up in in an interracial family, which gave her an immense love for "togetherness" at a very young age. Her studies didn’t take her too far to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) where she was very involved in the journalism program and honored to win first place for the Hearst Television News competition.

After graduation, CB headed home to work as the Jacksonville Bureau Chief for WITN. There she covered hurricanes and tropical storms that left her home state with severe devastation such as Hurricane Matthew. She also covered several stories of national importance to include the United States Armed forces nude photo scandal, the disappearance and death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods and the KC-130 crash that tragically killed 16 service members. During her time at WITN, CB was honored to be named a Michele Clark Fellow by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

CB then inched west to her next station in Nashville. There she covered a variety of stories and the summer of social justice protests in 2020 for which she received an Emmy nomination. CB also spent a lot of time tuning up her Blues guitar skills.

Now at Denver7, CB reports on a multitude of stories but her beats focus on crime, justice and law enforcement. In the fall of 2021, she was accepted into Boston University's Criminal Justice program. She will be pursuing her Master of Science degree, online.

CB is a proud member of the National Press Photographer’s Association and the National Association of Black Journalist. Outside of work, you can find her playing guitar (she has a Strat and Tele), watching sci-fi movies and shows (she loves Star Trek and Star Wars), hiking, and exercising. She's also learning to snowboard. If you have a good story idea, please contact her at cb.cotton@thedenverchannel.com
