'Best website' among major TV markets nationwide

The Radio Television Digital News Association has announced the 2012 National Edward R. Murrow Award winners, honoring with the "Best Website" for excellence in electronic journalism.

The award recognizes Denver'’s 7 as having the best television website in the country, among the largest television markets. is being honored on par with the likes of the,, and, which were all honored with best website awards.

"“We are extremely honored with this award. A TV station’'s website represents a sum total of all of its reporting and we’'re proud to be recognized for our collective efforts. It'’s a testament to the quality journalism that we do at 7NEWS,”" said Kim Nguyen, Director of New Media.

The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow’'s pursuit of excellence in journalism made him a national figure in the United States, which embodies the spirit of the awards carrying his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow created a standard for the broadcast news profession.

The win is one of several recent awards given to 7NEWS in recognition of their excellence in journalism including the Regional Murrow Award for Overall Excellence, Video News Documentary, Video Newscast, and Best Website. The regional Murrow awards were judged among websites in five western states.

"Receiving a national Murrow Award for the 7NEWS website is an industry honor," Nguyen said. She has managed TheDenverChannel website since it went online in January 2001 and was recently promoted to Director of New Media for Channel 7.
