Denver7 is proud to support Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) and their 5th Annual Uniquely Colorado event on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the SPACE Gallery in Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District.
The event brings together Colorado’s outdoor and business communities to celebrate the nonprofit’s 2019 volunteer season and 35th anniversary. VOC hosts nearly 100 outdoor volunteer projects each year on Colorado’s public lands. Last year, VOC contributed over $960,000 in volunteer labor and restored more than 25 miles of trail, removed 21 acres of invasive weeds, and planted over 1,000 native trees and bushes.
“Our outdoor places are what make our state unique,” said Anna Zawisza, VOC’s Director of Community Relations and Strategic Partnerships, “And so does our commitment to caring for them. Uniquely Colorado is our chance to bring together the many people who make our work possible, from our volunteers to our donors and corporate partners.”
The event will be emceed by Denver7 evening anchor Shannon Ogden and will feature Quinn Brett as the guest speaker. Brett worked as a climbing ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park and has first ascents in Patagonia and women’s speed records on El Capitan in Yosemite. She has also long been an advocate for public lands, repeatedly visiting Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators. In 2017, Brett took a 100-foot fall from El Cap, resulting in a spinal cord injury. She continues to be a passionate advocate for public lands, adaptive climbing, and spinal cord research.
Attendees will also enjoy local food and drink, live music, and the chance to win Colorado prize packages; all proceeds benefit VOC’s efforts to motivate and enable people to become active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources.
