This year has forced us all to adapt and change our plans. The Salvation Army has continued to adapt to meet the need. This Thanksgiving, rather than serving large congregant meals at places like the Colorado Convention Center, The Salvation Army prepared, delivered and served 2,800 Thanksgiving meals to individuals and families in its shelters, motel shelters and senior living facilities. This is up significantly from the 1,500 meals provided last year.
Denver7 and the Scripps Howard Foundation were proud to partner with The Salvation Army on making these meals a reality, providing a $10,000 grant to help cover the costs of preparing and delivering the meals.
“When we heard how The Salvation Army was shifting their traditional Thanksgiving meal service to a delivery model, we asked ‘how can we help?’ said Dean Littleton, VP/General Manager at Denver7. “We’re proud to support The Salvation Army and the important work they do to serve those in need in our community.”
The Salvation Army has been supporting those in need since 1865. More than 27 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 82 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.
