The North Pole was just a plane ride away for children who needed a little extra joy this holiday season. The United Airlines 'Fantasy Flight' was all fueled up and ready to go at DIA on Saturday before the children boarded for the trip of a lifetime.

Children and families from Make a Wish Colorado, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders - Children's Hospital Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Association, Family Tree, and Almost Home Inc., took the 40 minute flight to Santa's home.

Everyone was greeted inside the terminal with Christmas music. Even characters from Star Wars were on hand.

Santa's special plane was all decked out in Christmas decor. Children and their parents were welcomed with Christmas music over the PA system.

The flight to the North Pole only lasted 40 minutes. Santa and his elves welcomed everyone as they stepped off the plane into Santa's special airplane hangar.

The festivities ended with each child getting the opportunity to meet Santa. It was another success for United's Fantasy Flight.

5,000 deserving children and their families gathered at 11 U.S. airports this year to make the trip. United has chartered planes to the North Pole for 23 years.
